One in Eight

It’s all about Facebook this week. With an impending IPO that could make the Social Media giant the new bench mark for companies that go public, it is likely to be all we hear about for the next several days.

But just in case you need something else to ponder, here’s  a twist on some Facebook lore: 1 in 8 people on earth are on Facebook. It’s a hellava statistic that caused me to wonder what it is comparable to. A quick whirl of the Google yielded this…

1 in 8 teens misuses prescription painkillers

1 in 8 Chance of Catastrophic Solar Megastorm by 2020

1 in 8 babies is born prematurely. Worldwide

1 in 8 low-income parents waters down formula, study finds

1 in 8 People That Have Ever Lived Are Alive Today

IRS audited 1 in 8 millionaires

1 in 8 women (12%) will develop breast cancer

Nearly 1 in 8 Shy Teens May Have Social Phobia

It occurred to me as I pasted these links, that in addition to probably being on Facebook,  everyone who reads this is likely affected by at least one of these eight as well.

Food for thought.
